Terms and community rules

By joining Blackletter you agree to these terms. Your use of the iPhone app is also covered by Apple's standard licence agreement.

Community rules

Blackletter has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. Don't post, send or put in your profile:

• harassment, bullying, threats, or anything meant to intimidate someone;
• hate speech or slurs about race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or any other part of who someone is;
• sexually explicit material, or anything sexual involving minors;
• encouragement of violence, self-harm or anything illegal;
• spam, impersonation, or other people's private information.

Talking about books means talking about hard things, and that's fine: a review can name a novel's violence or cruelty. The rules are about how members treat each other.

Reporting and blocking

Use ••• on a post, list or profile, or press and hold a comment, passage or review, to report it or block the person. Blocking is immediate: neither of you sees the other, and it ends your friendship on Blackletter. Reports go to the club's owner, who reviews them within 24 hours, removes content that breaks these rules, and removes members who break them. Removed members can't rejoin.

Your account

Blackletter is invite-only: you need an invite from a member, sent to your phone number, and you must be at least 13. One account per person. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

What you post

What you write is yours. You let Blackletter store it and show it to the people who can see it under the app's privacy rules, only to run the app. You're responsible for what you post; quote books in short passages, not whole chapters.

Invites

Invite people who'd want to be invited. Each invite is for one phone number, and the owner can remove anyone who misuses them.

The fine print

Blackletter is offered as it is, without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free, and to the extent the law allows, it isn't liable for losses from using it. These terms may change; if they do, this page and its date will too, and continuing to use Blackletter means accepting them.
